Senior Account Manager - USA
Job Description
Our client is seeking a Senior Account Manager to grow its US mining equipment business through account management and business development. Reporting to the US General Manager, the role covers new equipment and fleet sales, parts, service, repairs, rebuilds and aftermarket support.
Based in Elko, Nevada, the successful candidate will bring established mining industry relationships, develop new customer connections and build opportunities for equipment and fleet sales. Regular site and underground visits are central to understanding customer operations and delivering effective support.
The role works closely with field service, product management, customer support engineering and a fellow account manager within a small, collaborative US team. Initial priorities are product familiarization, customer relationships and pipeline development, with sales growth expected as opportunities mature.
Responsibilities
- Own customer relationships as the primary commercial contact across operations, maintenance, procurement, engineering and leadership. Manage equipment, fleet and aftermarket opportunities from identification through to closure, maintaining a pipeline and disciplined quotation follow-up.
- Meet territory sales and growth targets by expanding existing accounts and developing new customers and market opportunities.
- Develop strategic account and engagement plans covering current business, growth opportunities, competitive threats and actions, informed by customer operations, production needs, fleet replacement and capital plans, and long-term development priorities.
- Prepare and present quotations and competitive technical and commercial proposals with internal teams, and negotiate terms within delegated authority, seeking leadership and Finance approval where required.
- Conduct regular site and underground visits to assess applications, operating conditions, performance and customer challenges, maintaining knowledge of equipment, products and aftermarket capabilities.
- Coordinate with product management and customer support engineering to answer customer inquiries and develop suitable solutions; represent customer needs, concerns and opportunities internally, and escalate equipment performance issues, including recurring problems.
- Maintain accurate CRM records of contacts, activities, quotations and opportunities, tracking major sales from identification through negotiation, award and delivery.
- Provide accurate monthly, quarterly and annual forecasts, including anticipated capital purchases, to support sales and production planning.
- Report account progress, immediate and long-term priorities, risks, competitive activity and market intelligence to management and relevant teams, including lessons from won and lost opportunities.
Requirements
- At least seven years of account management, territory sales or similar experience, ideally in mining, heavy equipment or industrial capital equipment.
- Established relationships within the US mining industry, including existing connections to Northern Nevada mining customers and stakeholders.
- A proven record of winning new business, growing existing accounts and achieving sales quotas.
- Working knowledge of underground mining operations, equipment and customer applications is strongly preferred.
- Strong listening, written and verbal communication, presentation and negotiation skills.
- Sound problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the motivation, resilience and initiative to manage a territory independently.
- A respectful, collaborative approach and willingness to contribute across a small team, including mentoring and exchanging knowledge with a fellow account manager.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, and CRM systems; ability to learn the company's sales tools.
- A valid driver's license and passport, and legal ability to undertake required business travel within the US and to Canada.
- Willingness to visit underground mines, accommodate early starts and respond to customer concerns outside normal hours, with occasional weekend travel and trade events.
